【Disappointing News】 The Mint Bureau’s cherry blossom viewing event has been cancelled again this year.

Unfortunately, due to the spread of COVID-19, the 2021 Cherry Blossom Passage at the Mint has been cancelled.

About Cherry Blossom Passage

Cherry Blossom Passage (Sakura-no-Toridashi) is a cherry blossom viewing event held for seven days around mid-April every year when the Yae-zakura cherry trees are in full bloom and a part of the premises of the Mint Bureau in Kita-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture is open to the public. The name “Dori-nuki” was coined around 1907 because many cherry trees were planted along the 560-meter-long corridor along the Okawa River, and people walked along the corridor in one direction to view the cherry blossoms.

The Mint has been selected as one of the 100 best places to view cherry blossoms in Japan, and there are 338 cherry trees of 134 varieties (as of 2019) planted within the premises, mainly late blooming Yae-zakura such as Kanzan and Fugenzou. One of these varieties is selected and announced as the “Flower of the Year” every year.
