“Dior, From Paris to Japan” will be held from March 1 (Sun) to 15 (Sun) at Hankyu Umeda Main Store in Osaka. There will also be a gift shop and a limited time shop.
Dior dresses and bags come from Paris!
At the “Dior, From Paris to Japan” exhibition, the Maison boasts valuable know-how, from haute couture dresses inspired by Japanese culture to “Lady Dior” bags, which are variously expressed by various artists will be introduced. Dedicate a tribute to Christian Dior’s passion for Japan, for his tribute to Ukiyo-e, Japanese aesthetics, craftsmanship and modernity.
Haute couture by John Galliano and Maria Grazia Chiuri
You can see that Dior’s successors, such as John Galliano, RAF SIMONS and Maria Grazia Chiuri, have been fascinated by the Japanese spirit of Christian Dior from the previously announced haute couture pieces coming from the Maison in Paris.
For example, John Galliano’s Spring / Summer 2007 Haute Couture collection, inspired by Christian Dior’s “japon” dress, unveiled a dress named after a Japanese heroine, and developed techniques such as kimono and obi. The elaborate piece and the look with the affection for origami were developed.
Maria Grazia Chiuri, current artistic director, has announced an evening dress depicting a bird perching on a cherry blossom branch as a tribute to Christian Dior’s ensemble, Jardin Japoné.
Maison’s atelier is set up and Toile also appears
The venue will have a Dior atelier and a space where you can experience the craftsmanship of the Maison. Here’s a look at the artisans making the iconic “Bar” jacket and the “Lady Dior” bag. A temporary sewing sample “Toile” that breathes life into haute couture is also on display. You can see the gorgeous creation process that you cannot usually see.
The artist will also showcase Lady Dior bags and valuable materials.
The “Lady Dior” bag by contemporary artists such as Daniel Arsham, Olympia Scarry and Kohei Nawa will also be on display. In addition, photos by David Keith Lynch, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, and Peter Lindbergh are introduced, and an artistic view of the world of Dior is introduced.
In addition, valuable materials from the archive also appeared. Photographs and sketches of the Empress Michiko wearing a specially designed dress by Dior at the time of marriage, and a sketch of the “Utamaro” ensemble from the autumn / winter 1954-55 collection, made with textiles from the long-established “Ryumura Art Textile” in Kyoto are displayed.

In addition to the exhibits, the hotel’s gift shop will sell commemorative items. A limited-time shop will be held at Kotokoto Stage 11 on the 1st floor of Hankyu Umeda Main Store from March 4 (Wed) to 10 (Tue).
