From Monday, October 21, 2019, a limited number of figures will be released by Takashi Murakami in collaboration with MoMA at New York Museum of Modern Art, MoMA Museum Shop, MoMA Design Store.
The artist’s Takashi Murakami’s most famous character in all directions, DOB’s ridiculous expression is both phantom and at the same time you can see that he is DOB. Mr. DOB who was impressively drawn in the iconic work “727” of 1996 selected for the MoMA collection, it was created to question the “secret of market viability” called by Murakami, who created DOB who is seen by famous characters such as Mickey Mouse, Miffy, Hello Kitty, and to reverse its meaning.
Mr. Murakami has named “Kun”, the title of honor for DOB. “Kun” is used to refer to young people, so it looks cute like a child. DOB-kun’s name, spelled by a round ear and a face, derived from the first three letters “DOB” in the romanization of the coined word, meaninglessly combined with the line “Doboji de Doboji de” in the manga “Inakappe Taisho” and the comedian Yuri Toru ’s catchphrase “Oshamanbe” to do. It seems as if you are questioning your existence and cult status.
