Capella, a luxury hotel from Singapore, has landed in Japan for the first time. Capella Kyoto” is scheduled to open in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto in the summer of 2025.
Luxury Hotel from Singapore Makes First Appearance in Japan
Opened in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto
Capella Kyoto, which will be the first of its kind in Japan, was built on the former site of Shindo Elementary School in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto. It is located in close proximity to the Miyagawa-cho Utamai Nerijo, where geiko and maiko from Miyagawa-cho, one of Kyoto’s five main flower districts, perform their traditional arts and crafts. The area is also conveniently located near world-famous tourist attractions such as Kiyomizu Temple, Yasaka Shrine, Kenninji Temple, and the Kamo River.
92 guest rooms, restaurant, spa, etc.
The building has four stories above ground and two below. In addition to 92 guest rooms, including suites, it will feature restaurants, banquet halls, and a spa. As the flagship hotel of the Capella Hotel Group, it will offer the world’s highest level of hospitality.
Architectural design supervised by Kengo Kuma & Associates
Capella Kyoto will open as part of NTT Urban Development’s redevelopment project to build a new hotel on the site of Shindo Elementary School, which has been loved by local residents for over 100 years, and to rebuild the nearby Miyagawa-cho Opera Dance Theater and other local facilities. The architectural design was supervised by Kengo Kuma & Associates.
