【Sup! Shizuoka!】 The “Original Capybara Open-air Bath” at Izu Shaboten Zoological Park!

Shizuoka’s Izu Shaboten Zoological Park will hold the “Original Capybara Open-air Bath – 40th Anniversary” from Saturday, November 19, 2022 to Sunday, April 2, 2023.

The Original Capybara Open-air Bath – 40th Anniversary –

As the name suggests, the “Original Capybara Open-air Bath” is an annual event held every winter where visitors can watch capybaras take an open-air bath. The name comes from the fact that a keeper at Izu Shaboten Park discovered by accident that capybaras “love to take a bath” when he was cleaning their exhibit room with hot water.

In the 2022 season, which marks the 40th anniversary, the baths will be offered in various versions depending on the season, including the standard “Oni Yuzu no Yu & Nabeyuburo (Pot Bath),” as well as “Request no Yu,” where visitors can choose what to float in the outdoor bath by request, and “Rose no Yu,” where they can enjoy the sight of bright red rose flowers and capybaras.
