More than 10 popular bakeries in Kyoto, the “holy land of bread

Kyoto Bread Fest 2022″ is an event focusing on breads from Kyoto, which is famous among bread lovers as a “holy land.

This year’s event, the second since 2016, will bring together more than 10 of Kyoto’s popular bakeries, including Fiveran and Shinshindo, to sell their bread. Visitors can feel as if they are touring Kyoto’s bakeries without having to leave Tokyo. The lineup of breads at each store changes on an irregular basis, so it is fun to compare different kinds of breads during the event.

Limited edition sandwiches and French toast using Shinshindo bread

The chefs at Happoen prepared an event-only menu using “Primiere” bread from Shindo, which has been in business for more than 100 years, and “Retro Baguette 1924” made with the highest quality flour. The flavorful “Primiere” bread is filled with fresh vegetables and ham to create a colorful sandwich. When ordering a sandwich, one of the three breads selected by MuSuBu from the bakery at the store will be included.

The thick-cut French toast, made with crispy and sizzling “Retro Baguette 1924,” will also be served with Kyoto vanilla ice cream on top.

Limited edition focaccia with Shibazuke (pickles) and cream cheese from “Kyoto Tsukemono Nishikari” will also be available.

In addition to the bakery from Kyoto, Happoen’s original bakery “BLUE TREE” also offers a limited edition bread. The limited-edition focaccia combines the shibazuke pickles from “Kyo tsukemono Nishikari” with rich cream cheese.

Coffee provided by Ogawa Coffee & wine tasting corner to go with the bread

In addition, coffee from Ogawa Coffee, established in Kyoto in 1952, will be served at the venue during the event. There will also be a corner where visitors can sample wines from “Bukkurodo,” an “urban” winery in downtown Taito-ku, Kyoto, that are perfect for bread.
