Illuminated “Shinjuku Minami Lumi” for the first time in 3 years
Shinjuku Minami Lumi is an illumination event that brightly illuminates the entire Shinjuku South Exit area, including Takashimaya Times Square, Shinjuku Southern Terrace, Suica Penguin Plaza, etc. This year’s event, the 8th of its kind, will be held for the first time in three years under the theme “Let the light carry the joy of reunion. It will be held for the first time in three years since the 2019 winter season.
Suica Penguin & Snow Globe
At the Suica Penguin Plaza, directly connected to the new south ticket gate of Shinjuku Station, snow globe-shaped houses and Suica penguin statues will welcome you. The plaza will be decorated with warm gold-toned lights, creating a fantastic light space that will bring a smile to your face.
Illumination shining like a “jewel” and interactive photo spots
Approximately 170,000 LED bulbs will be placed along the promenade of Shinjuku Southern Terrace. The entire terrace will shine like a jewel in the illumination “Jewels in my Heart”. Amber-colored light gently envelops the terrace, and the rainbow-colored LED lights with diamond motifs create a romantic atmosphere.
A recommended photo spot is the 46-meter-long path in the center of the terrace, which features the Twinkly Light System, an interactive lighting system that is the first of its kind in Japan. The path is equipped with motion sensors at both ends, which create a dynamic light effect according to the sensor’s reaction.
Christmas tree with berry-colored decorations
A white symbolic tree has appeared in Takashimaya Times Square, illuminating the “Garden of Light” in front of the JR entrance on the second floor with bright light. The tree is decorated with “berry-colored” bears and ornaments, the theme color of the event, to create a festive atmosphere.
In addition, Christmas trees will be installed at the JR Minami-Shinjuku Building and JR Shinjuku Milliner Tower. The Shinjuku Maynds Tower entrance will be decorated with illumination that changes colors every two weeks. The difference in appearance between daytime and nighttime is also noteworthy.
