Fàn Fàn, a Taiwanese sponge cake, opens today in Umeda (Kita-ku, Osaka).

A new Taiwanese sponge cake shop is coming to Kita (North Osaka)!

Taiwanese sponge cake Fàn Fàn Umeda specializes in freshly baked Taiwanese sponge cakes, made from gluten-free ingredients. The sponge pancakes are made with a blend of domestic rice flour and Taiwanese tapioca flour, brown sugar and honey, and are baked with plenty of meringue. In keeping with the authentic Taiwanese style, freshly baked sponge pancakes are cut into large pieces and served right in front of you.

The “Taiwanese sponge cake plain (with honey)” and the “Taiwanese sponge cake with fresh cream sandwich” are available for takeout. They will also have a “brown sugar” dough sponge cake.

You can enjoy it freshly baked, or lightly warm it up in the microwave for a fluffy texture, or toast it to a crispy outside and fluffy inside, for a variety of ways to enjoy it. Chilling it in the refrigerator will give it a moist texture.

There’s an eat-in menu, too.

Six types of “Taiwanese Sponge Cake Deco Cake” are available on the eat-in menu. You can enjoy a variety of variations, such as the strawberry and cream topped “plenty of strawberries”, the colorful “mixed fruit”, the “green tea” with red bean paste and chestnuts, the “mitarashi”, the “baked apple and cinnamon”, and the “brûlée cheese”.
