【Umeda / Ekimae #2 Building】You’re no longer lost in the heat of the moment! Osaka Ekimae No. 2 Building’s 4 Best Restaurants♪

The Osaka Ekimae buildings between Umeda and Kitashinchi. Buildings 1 to 4 are lined up, and as it is a business district and terminal, many restaurants are densely packed with them.

This time, we’ll be introducing some of the restaurants in the Osaka Ekimae No. 2 Building!

① Menya Roran

Located on the second basement floor of the building, Menya Roran is a popular ramen shop that has been in business since 2002 in a fiercely competitive area. Both ramen and tsukemen are available in four different flavors.

Specially made browned Miso Tsukemen
1,080 yen

The browned Miso soup with Ma oil is appetizing just looking at it. If you choose “special”, you will get a layer of chashu around the bowl. (The Tsukemen in the photo are not special.) The noodles are served in the hot soup. The thick, umami flavored soup blends well with the noodles and makes you want to keep eating it forever. For the second half, I recommend adding the seven flavors you find on the table to change the flavor!

② Tontei

Next, I’ll introduce you to a popular restaurant where there is always a line at lunchtime. It is a small restaurant with only a long counter in the back, but there is a wide variety of dishes on the menu, including a basic egg-tossed katsu-don (pork cutlet bowl), an oroshi katsu-don (grated pork cutlet bowl), a sauce katsu-don (pork cutlet bowl), a miso katsu-don (pork cutlet bowl), a tonkatsu set meal, a karaage set meal, fried shrimp, and a stamina bowl. It is also available to take home. On the counter, there are items such as jar pickles, one flavor chili peppers, and sansho, which you can use at your leisure.

530 yen

On the top of a bowl of rice, there is a tonkatsu, which has been cut with a knife for easy eating. What’s more, the cutlet is more than 1cm thick, so it’s very filling! You can add options such as large portions, double eggs, and special portions (double cutlet and egg), so even those who want to eat a full meal will be satisfied. The sauce is a bit thick, sweet and spicy, and once you start eating it, you can just eat it all at once. The price is 530 yen, which is one of the best cost performance in Osaka.

③ Grill Hokutosei (The Great Bear)

Grill Hokutosei is a delicious Western-style restaurant where there is always a queue during the lunchtime. All of the Western-style restaurants in the Osaka Station Building are cheap, hearty and delicious. The menu usually includes hamburger steak, fried shrimp, and omelet rice, but Grill Hokutosei’s signature dishes include Turkish pork (Turkish rice) and soup curry.

TORUKO Rice (Turkish Rice)
850 yen

When it comes to Turkish rice, the most common ones are pilaf, Neapolitan spaghetti, and tonkatsu with domiglace sauce. Grill Hokutosei’s Turkey Pork (Turkey Rice) is a dry curry with an egg on it like an omelette, topped with pork cutlet and domiglace sauce. In addition to tonkatsu, there are other variations of fries to put on top, such as fried shrimp, menchikatsu, and hamburger steak on the body.

④ The tendon at a popular sake bar is superb! “Kise Honten”

Kise Honten is a popular bar with five branches in total in the Osaka Ekimae Building, and during lunch from 10:45am to 3:00pm it specializes in tempura and is always packed to capacity.

Jo-Tendon 630 yen

The Jo-Tendon (630 yen) is filled with two prawns poking out of the bowl, a towering eggplant, pumpkin, okra, and nori (seaweed)! And even miso soup is included in the service. The thin batter is crispy and light but healthy, and the sauce in the bowl is also light, so even women can eat it easily.

There is also a “chicken tempura set meal” (850 yen) with a large bowl of chicken tempura on top of it (630 yen), and a “chicken tempura rice bowl” (850 yen) with a free refill of rice to satisfy even the most frequent eater.
