Hankyu Umeda Main Store “World Tea Festival 2022

Hankyu Umeda’s popular “World Tea Festival” features a wide variety of teas from around the world. The theme of this year’s festival, the first to be held offline in three years, is “Traveling the World through Tea,” and tea from about 30 countries and 50 brands will be gathered at three venues on the 9th floor.

About 50 brands of tea from 30 countries

At the “Festival Square”, one of the main venues, we will take a close look at teas from around the world from the Tea Belt (the area located between 45 degrees north and 35 degrees south latitude around the center of the Red Sea), where many tea production areas are located. The “Festival Square” introduces tea from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Japan, and other countries, and the passionate tea makers who work in each area.

For example, the Titulia Tea Estate in Bangladesh was started in 2000 in an undeveloped area between the Pramaputra and Ganges Rivers in the Himalayan Mountains. The tea, including “Decolage,” a black tea with a rich and mellow taste similar to Assam, is produced using farming methods that live in harmony with nature without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers.

Learn and savor Western teatime culture and history

The Hankyu Umeda Gallery introduces the more than 400-year history of tea and tea culture, which began in China and spread to Europe. The exhibition includes a special cup used in the 19th century in England to divine the future by the shape of tea leaves left in the teacup, a tea bowl imported with tea around the 17th century, and other items.

Also featuring unique Chinese and Taiwanese teas

The third “Art Stage” features unique Chinese and Taiwanese teas. The appeal of Chinese teas, which have been consumed since around 2700 B.C., will be introduced along with a variety of teas and tea utensils, including flavored Chinese “Yongde black tea” flavored with lychee and “Xiao Ting Gang,” a Chinese tea made by hollowing out the pulp of a pre-ripe citrus fruit and filling it with pu-erh tea.
