Hotel New Otani Osaka will hold the restaurant fair “New Edo Western Cuisine by Contemporary Master Chef Seizo Mikuni,” produced by Seizo Mikuni, a master of French cuisine, from September 1 (Thursday) to September 30 (Friday), 2022.
Western-style cuisine produced by “Master of French cuisine” Seizo Mikuni
Thirty-seven years after opening the French restaurant “Hôtel de Mikuni” in Yotsuya, Tokyo, in 1985, Seizo Mikuni has been leading Japanese food culture as a “master of French cuisine. Mikuni is now producing the entire Western-style restaurant “SATSUKI” at Hotel New Otani Osaka.
The focus is on the excellent hamburger steak with “sweet and sour sauce.
On the menu are so-called “royal” Western-style dishes such as crispy grilled sea bream and Hokkaido potatoes and beef stew made with Japanese black beef. Of particular note is the “Tokyo hamburger steak fruit-flavored Mikuni style. It is a recreation of the “hamburger steak with sweet and sour sauce” that Mikuni first tasted when he was 15 years old, and can be said to be the origin of his hamburger steak.
The menu also includes bouillabaisse made with seafood from the waters around Osaka and pork cutlets from Hyogo Prefecture, both of which are made with Kansai ingredients.
Cooking classes with “special courses” are also available.
On September 25 (Sun.), during the event, a special cooking class will be held in which Seizo Mikuni will visit the museum and give a cooking demonstration. He will demonstrate three dishes, including “Hokkaido Potato Salad” made with potatoes and special mayonnaise from Hokkaido, the chef’s birthplace, and “Hamburg steak,” which inspired him to become a chef. After the cooking class, guests will be able to enjoy a special course using the dishes demonstrated.
