HARAJUKU COLLECTIVE, an apparel collection by HOT TOPIC, a manufacturing and retail chain that offers licensed items of Studio Ghibli’s works in the U.S. and Canada, began sales through its online store (for the Japanese market) on August 10, 2022 (Wednesday). To celebrate the launch of this collection, a limited time POP UP STORE was also opened at AF GALLERY in Harajuku on the same day.
Original Japanese items and original American items are available.
The collection will feature original Japanese items produced by nine Japanese creators and brands, as well as original American items produced by HOT TOPIC’s exclusive designers.
The Japan-original items feature artwork by illustrators who have drawn characters from Ghibli’s works for this occasion, as well as designs of scenes from Ghibli’s works that were particularly memorable to the creators. The product lineup includes more than 50 models, including not only standard T-shirts and sweatshirts, but also denim jackets, skajans, dresses, shirts, leggings, and more. A large selection of accessories such as bags, pouches, and stickers are also available.
Limited Time Pop Up Store
At the limited time POP UP STORE, when you enter the colorful exterior of the store, which looks as if Makuro Krosuke and Little Totoro are playing, you will be greeted by a rainbow-colored Big Totoro that mixes the world of Totoro and the image of Harajuku! “If there are colorful KAWAII mushrooms in Totoro’s forest, and if it rains acorns, might there be a day when you use a mushroom umbrella?” -this dusty and colorful Totoro was born from such an imagination.
Artwork drawn for the Japan-original items will be displayed on the walls, and visitors can actually hold the products in their hands and enjoy shopping in this special space.
