From April 26 (Monday) to mid-May, the “2021 Awaji Island Onion Festival” will be held at 155 “Moss Burger” stores in the Kansai region, using new onions grown on Awaji Island in the fields of cooperating farmers (*1) of Moss.

*1) This refers to the approximately 2,400 farmers throughout Japan (in FY2021) with whom the company has established independent relationships. They grow their crops using methods that do not rely on pesticides or chemical fertilizers as much as possible.

Annual “Awaji Island Onion” Festival

The “Awaji Island Onion Festival” was first held in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions in 2016, and has been held every year during the season when onions are in season. 2017 marked the first time the festival was held in Hyogo Prefecture, and in 2019, it was expanded to the Kansai region to sell products using new onions produced on Awaji Island.

This year, “Awaji Island’s particular farmer made onion burger with Japanese soy sauce” and “Awaji Island’s particular farmer made onion burger with Japanese soy sauce and cheese” will be available for a limited time only in the Kansai region, where sales demand is particularly high.

A sandwich full of fresh “new onions”

The “Onion Burger Made by Dedicated Farmers of Awaji Island with Japanese Soy Sauce” (420 yen, tax included) is a hamburger that uses plenty of raw “new onions,” which are particularly sweet, fresh and soft and suitable for eating raw, among the onions produced on Awaji Island.

The green leaves and juicy patty are topped with a generous amount of the original onion burger sauce and sliced onions from Awaji Island, then topped with more onion burger sauce and finally topped with bonito flakes made from dried bonito (*2).

The original sauce for the onion burger is a refreshing Japanese-style sauce based on soy sauce with concentrated cranberry juice.

*2) In the process of making bonito flakes, a fungus called katsuobushi bacillus (a type of yeast) is added.

Or with mild cheese!

Also, the “Awaji Island’s particular farmer made onion burger with cheese in Japanese soy sauce” is a mild-tasting hamburger with sliced cheese added to the “onion burger” for 450 yen (tax included).

Please note that some “Mos-bergers” stores may be closed or change their opening hours, and some menu items may be discontinued, so please check the official website for details!
