In conjunction with autumn, when you can appreciate the beautiful autumn leaves in Kyoto, special openings will be held for temples that hold various temple treasures, such as historical buildings that are normally closed to the public and cultural assets related to Tokugawa Ieyasu. Daitokuji, a temple associated with Sengoku daimyo such as Nobunaga Oda and Hideyoshi Toyotomi, will hold special autumn exhibitions at “Oubai-in”, “Korin-in” and “Somi-in”.
＜Daitokuji Korin-in Temple＞ Japanese Garden “Hojo Garden”
Among them, one that you should pay attention to is Daitokuji Korin-in. The Hojo Garden, which was restored by Kinsaku Nakane, the gardener who created the beautiful main hall and Karamon, which show the characteristics of the architectural style of the Muromachi period, and the garden of the Adachi Museum of Art, which is called “the best Japanese garden in Japan,” will be specially presented. can be appreciated.
＜Kobai-in Temple at Daitokuji Temple＞ “Direct courtyard” by Sen no Rikyu
The highlight of Daitokuji Kobaiin, a temple associated with Sengoku daimyo such as Nobunaga Oda and Hideyoshi Toyotomi, is the direct courtyard, which is said to have been created by Sen no Rikyu when he was 66 years old. You can enjoy the superb view of the dry landscape garden with moss spreading all over and the autumn leaves.

In addition, the Shogoin Monzeki, which became the temporary imperial palace of Emperor Kokaku when the imperial palace was destroyed by the Great Fire of Tenmei, will also be open to the public in autumn. The Kinpeki partition paintings by Eino Kano and Masunobu Kano, and the Shoin, which has been restored over three years, will be on display.

In addition, wall paintings related to Tokugawa Ieyasu, who will be in the spotlight in the 2023 Taiga drama “Dosuru Ieyasu”, will also be released. At “Kenninji Temple Kyushoin”, you can appreciate “Nagashino Battle Map” depicting the Battle of Nagashino, in which the allied forces of Nobunaga Oda and Ieyasu Tokugawa defeated the army of Katsuyori Takeda.
