Pokemon as a craft! A must-see for Pokemon fans! Plan your trip to Kanazawa now!

The exhibition “Pokemon x Crafts Exhibition-Great Discovery of Beauty and Skills-” is being held at the National Crafts Museum in Kanazawa until June 11, 2023 (Sun).

“Pokemon x Crafts Exhibition”

“Pokemon” and “Crafts”. A seemingly unexpected combination, but they actually have a lot in common. For example, the raw materials used in crafts and the energy used in the manufacturing process include earth, grass, metal, water, fire, and electricity. In addition, the system of honing and cultivating skills, collecting and exchanging items often overlaps with the feelings of craftsmen and enthusiasts.

20 participants from Living National Treasures to up-and-coming young people

At the “Pokemon x Crafts Exhibition – A Great Discovery of Beauty and Skills”, artists seriously challenged the question, “What kind of chemical reaction would occur if Pokemon and crafts were to meet face-to-face?” An exhibition to display works. Twenty artists, from Living National Treasures to up-and-coming young artists, will unveil for the first time about 70 new works created using a wide variety of craft materials and techniques.

At the venue, Taiichiro Yoshida’s “Jolteon” made of copper and gold, and Kanshin Imai’s “Venusaur” expressed in pottery, are three-dimensional crafts.

You can also appreciate Shiroma Eiichi’s “Ryukyu Bingata Kimono ‘Shima Tsunagi'”, which incorporates characters such as Pikachu, and Komiya Yasuyoshi’s “Edo Komon Kijyaku ‘Gengar Ghost'”, which expresses Gengar and ghosts on the entire surface.
