Stained Glass Artist Mari Hirano’s Exhibition at Daimaru Umeda Store

Mari Hirano is a stained glass artist who adds her own unique “pause” to stained glass, which is made up of pieces of glass joined together, and expresses a new frontier of stained glass art. Her representative works are based on the motif of samples lined up in a showcase at a coffee shop, which is said to have inspired her to create her works.

For example, “Jelly Punch – Cafe Soiree” is based on the motif of “Jelly Punch,” a specialty menu item actually served at “Cafe Soiree,” a popular coffee shop in Kyoto established in 1948. The work uses cubes of stained glass to depict the colorful five-color jelly shining in the soda as it catches the light.

Other works on display include “Pudding,” reminiscent of retro coffee shop pudding, “Cream soda,” based on the classic cream soda motif, and “Pancake,” with plenty of maple syrup, all based on the classic menu of retro coffee shops.
