“Hanami” with Japanese art works with a “cherry blossom” motif
The Tokyo National Museum’s annual spring event, “Hanami at the Museum,” introduces excellent works of Japanese art with cherry blossom motifs, such as paintings, ceramics, and kimonos, in each exhibition room of the main building.

In the painting, Utagawa Toyokuni’s “Shin-Yoshiwara Cherry Blossom Scenery”, which expresses the cherry blossoms in full bloom and courtesans competing for beauty under the cherry blossoms in full bloom in Nakanomachi, the main street extending from the main gate of Yoshiwara, and a gorgeous dance against the backdrop of the spring landscape. Kano Eigaku’s “Bugaku-zu Byobu”, and Okumura Masanobu’s “Sakura Riding Young People”, which humorously captures young people riding horses under cherry blossoms and women peering at them from a monomi inn. Ukiyo-e and folding screen paintings depicting cherry blossoms will be on display.

Kimonos and handicrafts are also available. A kosode from the Genroku period that expresses a flower wheel using seasonal flowers such as cherry blossoms, chrysanthemums, and peonies, and a fukusa that is embroidered with a peacock called the king of a hundred birds and a cherry tree in full bloom. , and the Nabeshima-yaki dish “Colored Painting Shidarezakura Zara (Weeping cherry tree Dish)” depicting weeping cherry blossoms.
